Selling on Taled

Last updated 13 October 2026
Listing a book on Taled is free. We charge two fees when a book sells: one to the seller and one to the buyer. You’ll see both before anyone pays.
Seller fee
10%
When your book sells, Taled keeps 10% of the book price, with a minimum of 50c per order. It comes out of your payout. We never take a cut of postage.
Buyer fee
$1.49
Buyers pay a flat $1.49 per order. It shows on the listing, and again as its own “Buyer protection” line in your cart and at checkout, so it’s never a surprise at the last step.
Postage and combined postage
0%
Sellers set postage on each listing, including combined postage for more than one book. The buyer pays it on top of the book price and all of it goes to the seller. No Taled fee applies to postage. Local pickup orders have no postage at all.

Card processing costs come out of Taled’s fees. Stripe doesn’t take a separate cut of your payout.
Our first 50 sellers (the first 50 to finish setting up payouts with Stripe and publish a listing) pay no seller fee for 12 months, on posted and pickup orders. After that, it’s the standard 10% on both. See Founding sellers.

Buyer fee: $1.49 buyer protection per order

Buyers pay a flat $1.49 per order. It shows on the listing, and again as its own “Buyer protection” line in your cart and at checkout, so it’s never a surprise at the last step.
An order is everything you buy from one seller in one checkout. Buy three books from one seller and you pay $1.49 once. Buy from two sellers and that’s two orders, so $2.98.
The fee pays for secure payment through Stripe and Taled’s dispute process if your book doesn’t arrive or is significantly not as described. It isn’t refundable once your order’s paid, except where the law says otherwise, where the seller cancels your whole order before posting it (or, for local pickup, before handover), or where a pickup seller doesn’t turn up and we uphold your report. It doesn’t replace or limit your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Read more on the Buyer protection page.

A full example

A $12.00 paperback with $8.00 postage:
•
The buyer pays $12.00 + $8.00 postage + $1.49 buyer protection = $21.49.
•
The seller receives $12.00 less the $1.20 seller fee, plus the $8.00 postage = $18.80.
•
Taled keeps $2.69 ($1.20 + $1.49) and pays the card processing costs out of that.
If the seller is a founding seller, they receive the full $20.00 and the buyer still pays $21.49.
Collected by local pickup instead, there’s no postage:
•
The buyer pays $12.00 + $1.49 buyer protection = $13.49.
•
The seller receives $12.00 less the $1.20 seller fee = $10.80.
•
Taled keeps $2.69 ($1.20 + $1.49) and pays the card processing costs out of that.
A founding seller receives the full $12.00, and the buyer still pays $13.49.

Founding sellers

Last updated 7 October 2026
Our first 50 sellers pay no seller fee for 12 months. It’s our thanks for backing Taled early.

Who counts

The first 50 sellers who finish setting up payouts with Stripe and publish a listing. Both steps need to be done. We go by the order people complete them, and we’ll confirm your founding status by email.

What you get

Normally Taled takes 10% of the book price when a book sells (50c minimum per order). As a founding seller, you pay 0% for your first 12 months, on posted orders and local pickup alike. You keep the full book price, plus the postage the buyer pays on a posted order.
Sell a $12.00 book with $8.00 postage and you receive the whole $20.00. On standard fees you’d get $18.80. Sell the same book by local pickup and you get the whole $12.00, instead of $10.80.

What still applies

Buyers still pay the $1.49 buyer protection fee on every order, including yours. It covers payment through Stripe and our dispute process, and it’s paid by the buyer, not taken from your payout.
Everything else is the same as for any seller. You’ll set up payouts with Stripe and get paid the same way: when you mark the order as posted (or the buyer confirms it arrived first), or when a pickup handover’s confirmed. The Seller Terms and our dispute process apply to your sales.

When it starts and ends

We’ll confirm your founding status by email once you’re in the first 50. You pay no seller fee on posted or pickup orders from the moment you become a founding seller, even before that email arrives. Your 12 months starts on the date we send the email, and you’ll see your end date in the app.
We’ll email you before your 12 months end. After that, the standard seller fee applies to new orders, posted or pickup: 10% of the book price, 50c minimum per order. Orders placed during your founding period stay fee-free.
If you delete your account, founding status ends with it. You don’t keep unused fee-free months on a new account. A suspension doesn’t pause the clock. The 12 months keep running while you’re suspended.

The fine print

•
Founding status is limited to 50 sellers, and it’s tied to your account. You can’t transfer it.
•
It covers Taled’s seller fee only. It doesn’t change postage, the buyer protection fee, or the rules on what you can sell.
•
Fees are in Australian dollars and include GST if it applies.

Postage

Sellers set postage on each listing, including combined postage for more than one book. The buyer pays it on top of the book price and all of it goes to the seller. No Taled fee applies to postage. Local pickup orders have no postage at all.

Refunds, payouts and GST

Cancellations and refunds

If we uphold a buyer’s claim, the buyer gets the book price and postage back. We recover it from the seller’s payout where Stripe allows, and Taled covers anything we can’t recover.
The $1.49 buyer protection fee isn’t refundable once an order’s paid, because the payment and dispute handling it pays for has already been done. That’s the case except where the law says otherwise, and in the two cases below where we refund it ourselves.
If the seller cancels the whole order before posting it (or, for local pickup, before handover), so nothing reaches the buyer, the buyer gets everything back, including the $1.49. The same goes if a pickup seller doesn’t turn up or won’t hand over the book and we uphold the buyer’s report. If only part of the order is cancelled and the rest still arrives, the $1.49 isn’t refunded. Each seller in a cart is a separate order, so one seller cancelling only refunds that order’s $1.49. On any other upheld claim, the buyer gets the book price and postage back and the $1.49 stays.
A local pickup has to happen within 14 days of the order, and the pickup you agree has to fall inside that window. If nobody confirms the handover in that time, the order cancels automatically and the buyer gets the book price back. The $1.49 isn’t refunded, except where the law says otherwise.
Sellers don’t pay the seller fee on an order that’s cancelled or fully refunded.

Payments and payouts

Payments go through Stripe. Sellers set up payouts with Stripe, which checks their identity and pays into the bank account they connect. On a posted order, we hold the payment until the seller marks it as posted or the buyer confirms it arrived, whichever comes first, then release the seller’s payout straight away. For local pickup, we hold it until the handover’s confirmed (usually when the buyer gives the seller their handover code), then release it. Apart from limited holds for fraud or an open card dispute, that’s as long as we hold anything. There’s no standing escrow.
Taled is the marketplace, not the seller. When you buy a book, you’re buying it from the person who listed it.

GST and currency

All fees are in Australian dollars and include GST if it applies.

If fees change

We’ll give notice before any fee changes, and a change won’t apply to orders already placed.

How it works

Scan the ISBN or type in the title, pick an honest condition grade, and take a few photos of your actual copy. Set your price and postage, and you’re listed. Offer combined postage if you’re happy to send a few books in one parcel.
When someone buys, you post the book to the address on the order within about 3 business days of the order. Tracked postage is a good idea for anything pricey.
If you offer local pickup, the buyer still pays through Taled, and there’s no postage. Agree a time and a public place in chat, within 14 days of the order. At the meet-up, let the buyer check the book, then enter the 4-digit handover code they read out. That’s when you’re paid. Don’t hand the book over without the code.
You sell directly to the buyer. Taled runs the marketplace, so we’re not the seller of record and we don’t inspect or authenticate books. That’s why honest grades and real photos count.

What it costs

Listing is free. When a book sells, Taled takes a seller fee of 10% of the book price, with a minimum of 50c per order. There’s no fee on postage. The buyer pays postage on top and it all comes to you.
A $12.00 book costs you $1.20, so you get $10.80 plus postage. A $3.00 book hits the 50c minimum, so you get $2.50 plus postage. Sell three $5.00 books to one buyer in one order and the fee is $1.50 on the $15.00 total.
Before you publish, we show you what you’ll get after the fee. Card processing costs come out of Taled’s fees, so Stripe doesn’t take anything extra from your payout. If a sale is fully refunded, you don’t pay the seller fee.
Buyers pay a separate $1.49 buyer protection fee per order. It doesn’t come out of your money.
If you have to cancel a whole order before posting it (or before handover, for pickup), the buyer gets everything back, including their $1.49, and you don’t pay the seller fee. The same happens if you don’t turn up for a pickup and we uphold the buyer’s report. Try not to make a habit of either. Frequent cancellations, or repeatedly not turning up for pickups, can limit your account.
Full details are in Fees.

Founding sellers

The first 50 sellers who finish setting up payouts with Stripe and publish a listing pay no seller fee on posted or pickup orders from the moment they qualify, and for 12 months from the date we email to confirm their founding status. Deleting your account ends founding status. A suspension does not pause the clock. See Founding sellers.

Getting paid

Payments go through Stripe. Before your first payout, you’ll set up payouts with Stripe. Stripe verifies your identity and pays into the bank account you connect.
Once the book’s in the post, tap Mark as posted on the order. Your payout’s released through Stripe straight away and lands in your bank on Stripe’s payout schedule. If the buyer taps Confirm it arrived before you do, that releases it too. Only tap Mark as posted once you’ve actually sent it. Forget, and your payout stays held until you tap it or the buyer confirms. We’ll remind you in the app after about 3 business days. You get the book price, less the seller fee, plus the postage the buyer paid. There’s no long hold waiting for the buyer to say they love it.
Pickup orders are paid differently. Your payout is released the moment you enter the buyer’s handover code. If the code doesn’t go in (say your phone dies), tap I’ve handed it over once the buyer has the book, and we’ll pay you 3 days later unless they report a problem first. On a $12.00 book you get $10.80, with no postage.
If we uphold a buyer’s claim because a book didn’t arrive or was significantly not as described, the buyer gets the book price and postage back, and we recover that from your payout or Stripe balance where Stripe allows. That can include a payout you’ve already received. The same goes for a successful chargeback. You won’t pay the seller fee on a fully refunded order. Reply quickly if we ask you for tracking or photos.

The ground rules

•
You need to be 16 or older.
•
Physical books only. No ebooks, PDFs or audio files.
•
Only list books you have on hand, ready to post or hand over. No dropshipping.
•
Photograph the actual copy you’ll send and show any defects.
•
Keep chat and payment on Taled. Sending buyers off-platform to dodge fees can get your account restricted.
You’ll accept the Seller Terms the first time you list. After that, it’s standing.
