Community Guidelines

Last updated 27 October 2026
Taled works because readers trust each other. Someone in Hobart buys a book from someone in Townsville, sight unseen, based on a few photos and a condition grade. These guidelines are how we keep that trust. They apply to everyone on Taled: listings, profiles, chat, reviews, and anything you send us.
You’ll agree to them when you create your account, and again when we make a significant change. They sit alongside our Terms of Use, Seller Terms, Buyer Protection and Refunds and Prohibited and Restricted Listings.

Be honest in your listings

List the actual copy you'll post, and describe it the way a fussy buyer would.
•
Use real photos of your copy, not a stock image or someone else's photo. Show the cover, spine and any wear.
•
Pick the condition grade that fits. If you're torn between two grades, choose the lower one.
•
Say what a buyer would want to know: creases, water marks, torn or loose pages, highlighting, notes in the margins, a name inside the cover, a missing dust jacket, ex-library stamps, and smells like smoke, pets or mustiness.
•
Get the title, author, edition and ISBN right. Don't use a popular ISBN to get more views.
•
Only list books you have on hand and can post. No drop-shipping and no pre-orders.
Our Prohibited and Restricted Listings page covers what you can and can't sell.

Be respectful

Talk to people the way you'd talk to someone at a book swap. Short, friendly and clear goes a long way.
Not allowed, in chat, reviews, profiles or listings:
•
harassment, bullying, insults or repeated messages after someone's asked you to stop;
•
hate speech or slurs about race, religion, gender, sexuality, disability or any other part of who someone is;
•
threats of violence or harm, even as a "joke";
•
sexual messages, sexual images or unwanted advances;
•
spam, chain messages, or promoting other businesses or apps;
•
pretending to be someone else, including Taled.
We don't ban books for their ideas. A lawful book can be listed even if some people find it confronting. These rules are about how you treat people.

Keep payment on Taled

Pay and get paid through Taled checkout. It's the only way buyer protection applies, and it's how sellers get paid through Stripe.
Don't ask for or offer cash, PayID, bank transfer, cash apps or gift cards for a book listed on Taled, whether it's posted or picked up. Don't put your phone number, email or social handles in a listing or profile to move a sale somewhere else, and don't list a book at one price and ask for a different price in chat. Moving a sale off Taled to avoid fees can get your account restricted, and if something goes wrong, we can't help.
Local pickup goes through Taled checkout too. The buyer pays when they order, we hold the payment, and the seller's paid once they enter the handover code the buyer gives them at pickup. So pickup orders get buyer protection, just like posted ones. If you pay cash, PayID or a bank transfer at the meet-up instead, the sale isn't covered and we can't help if something goes wrong.

Keep reviews real

Reviews help the next buyer decide. Only leave a review for an order you actually bought, and write about the book, the packing and how the seller communicated.
Don't:
•
post fake reviews, or ask friends or a second account to review you;
•
swap reviews ("I'll give you five stars if you give me five");
•
offer refunds, discounts or freebies in exchange for a good review or for removing a bad one;
•
threaten a bad review to get something you're not owed.
A fair negative review is fine. So is a seller replying politely in chat to sort out the problem.

Protect other people's privacy

When you buy or sell, you'll see some personal details, like a buyer's name and shipping address. Use them only to complete that order.
Don't post anyone's address, phone number, email, full name or chat messages publicly, including screenshots on social media. Don't contact people outside Taled for anything unrelated to your order. Don't put other people's personal details in listings or reviews.

Post on time and honestly

Sellers, post within about 3 business days of the order. If you're running late, message the buyer.
Pack books so they arrive in the condition you described. Cardboard or bubble wrap beats a thin satchel for hardcovers. Only tap Mark as posted once the parcel's actually with the carrier, and share tracking if you have it. If you can't send an order, cancel it rather than leaving the buyer waiting.
For pickup, agree a time within 14 days of the order and turn up when you said you would. If you can't make it, message the other person. Sellers, if you can't hand the book over at all, cancel the order so the buyer gets a full refund.
Buyers, raise problems in chat first and give the seller a fair chance to fix them. Our Buyer Protection and Refunds page has the steps.

Meet safely for local pickup

If you arrange pickup:
•
meet in a public place in daylight, like a library, café or shopping centre;
•
tell a friend or family member where you're going and who you're meeting, or bring someone along;
•
you don't have to share your home address;
•
keep your chat on Taled so there's a record of what you agreed;
•
buyers, check the book before you read out your handover code, and never send the code in chat;
•
sellers, don't let the book go until the app has accepted the code;
•
if you're under 18, bring a parent or guardian;
•
if anything feels off, leave.

Reporting and blocking

To report a listing, profile, conversation or review, tap the ⋯ menu and choose Report. To report a single message, press and hold it. Pick a reason (Not a real book or misleading, Prohibited item, Offensive, Scam or spam, or Other) and add a note if it helps. We don't tell the other person who reported them. You won't hear back about every report, but we read them all.
To block someone, tap the ⋯ menu on their listing, profile or chat and choose Block. You won't see their listings, reviews or messages, and they won't be told. You can unblock them any time under Account, then Settings & Help, then Blocked people.
You can also email support@taled.com.au.
If someone threatens your safety, call 000 in an emergency, or contact your local police. You can report serious online abuse to the eSafety Commissioner at esafety.gov.au. Then tell us, so we can act on the account.

What we do

Taled is run by two people, so we don't check every listing or message before it goes live. We rely on reports, and we take them seriously.
We aim to review reports within 24 hours, and faster when someone's safety is at risk. Depending on what we find, we may:
•
remove a message, review or listing, or hide a listing so buyers can't see it;
•
send you a warning by email;
•
limit what you can do, such as selling;
•
suspend your account, which hides your listings and stops you listing new books;
•
close your account for good.
We match the response to the problem. An honest mistake in a listing usually gets a warning and a chance to fix it. Repeatedly not turning up for agreed pickups can lead to limits on your account or a suspension. Scams, threats, sexual harassment, selling stolen or illegal items, or trying to get around a suspension can mean we close the account straight away. Where the law requires it, or someone's at risk, we report to police and other authorities, and we keep the records they need.
If we hide your listing or suspend your account, you'll see a note in the app telling you.

Appeals

If you think we got it wrong, go to Account, then Settings & Help, then Appeal a decision, or email support@taled.com.au. Tell us which listing or account it's about and why. One of us will look at it again, and we'll reply by email within 7 days.
